5 Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures for a Beautiful Smile

  • January 12, 2018

A smile can say a lot about you. A great smile can open many doors to opportunity, while a less than stellar one can slam those same doors shut in your face. It is never too late to open those doors for yourself with the help of a good dentist and a few clever tricks that they may have up their sleeves. This list will explore five of these neat tricks that will leave you smiling proudly like never before.

1. Teeth Whitening

Does your smile not sparkle as well as it used to? Has years of coffee consumption or smoking left a bit of color on those formally sparkly whites? Has it led to you smiling less, giving you a tired, potentially wrinkled look. It happens to many people, but it doesn’t have to be a permanent part of your life.

Your local dentist may have multiple ways to help whiten your teeth, giving you a youthful, energetic appearance. They may even offer several options on how to whiten your teeth, which allows you to find one that properly adheres to your budget.

2. Laser Gum Contouring

A few folks have what is referred to as “excessive gum tissue.” This means that your gums hang a bit lower than some people, which can possibly give your teeth a short, stubby appearance. This can be rectified by a procedure known as a gingivectomy. This lifts your gums up, revealing the beautiful smile found beneath. A soft gum laser will remove the excess gum, minimizing bleeding and recovery time, and leaving you with a smile that you never thought was possible!

3. Inlays and Overlays

Has one or more of your teeth degraded or broken over the years? Has this left your smile uneven, jagged, and less than attractive? Then you may want an inlay or overlay. These fabricated fillings or crowns perfectly mimic a tooth, giving you your lost smile back in an easy, comfortable procedure.

For a filling, or inlay, a mold is made of the damaged tooth, which is then used to create a perfectly sized filling that is fitted into your tooth, and then bonded permanently. An overlay is largely the same procedure, but a bit bigger and typically covers the missing crown of your damaged tooth. This restores your smile to a time when it was whole and gorgeous.

4. Porcelain Veneers

In the world of dentistry, there are many options for solving your oral issues. Among them are veneers, which are said to be one of the most effective solutions to many problems. Veneers are thin, porcelain coverings that are bonded to your teeth, potentially solving issues such as broken or chipped teeth, teeth gaps, misshapen or crooked teeth, and even unsightly stains. Plus, veneers do not wear or discolor like natural tooth enamel.

5. Dental Bonding

Another great way to solve several problems is to use dental bonding. These are typically used for small cracks, chips, or flaws in your smile so you don’t have to turn to the more major procedures that can be potentially lengthy or a bit more expensive. In this procedure, a tooth-colored resin is applied to the surface of your tooth, then solidified with a unique light that effectively bonds the resin to your tooth. This can also be used to repair decayed teeth, extend shorter teeth, and to protect a tooth’s root if the gum decides to recede.

No matter the severity of your dental issues or the size of your budget, there are plenty of solutions to whatever problems you may have. All it takes is an appointment with your local dentist and you’re on your way down the road to a beautiful smile.
